The objective of the study was to develop – for these newly developed requirements – an estimation of the FCR capability from wind, PV, thermal and nuclear plant. The result was combined with the TSOs’ estimate for FCR capability from hydro units in order to get a comprehensive understanding of FCR capability once the new FCR requirements are implemented.
E-Bridge conducted both desk research and interviews with wind turbine manufacturers and Nordic thermal power plant owners. Based on this information, estimations were developed for future scenarios.
The results of the study were FCR capability estimations for Frequency Containment Reserves for wind, PV, thermal and nuclear. The TSOs have used the results for assessing the feasibility of implementing their newly developed requirements for FCR.
